The New England Aquarium is a public aquarium that is located within Boston, Massachusetts. Apart from the main aquarium building, the New England Aquarium attractions include the Simons Theatre and The New England Aquarium Whale Watch, which is open between April and November. The aquarium boasts nearly 22,000 participants and welcomes over 1.3 million people each year. The aquarium’s design was first conceived at the end of 1962. The primary design the architect was Peter Chermayeff of Cambridge Seven Associates. The building opened its doors open to public access in the year 1969. Its Giant Ocean Tank opened in 1970, and, in the early days, it was the largest circular ocean tank anywhere in the world.
A three-story barge called Discovery is moored near the Aquarium. It was used to act as an afloat mammal park for the aquarium, as the lack of land impeded the capacity of the aquarium to grow. The observation stadium, which was a capacity of 1,000, overlooked a 116,000-US-gallon (440,000 l 97,000 imp gal) pool. The central open atrium is the heart of the structure. The most prominent characteristic in Aquarium is the Giant Ocean Tank. The aquarium includes its Giant Ocean Tank, a cylindrical 200,000-US-gallon (760,000 l) tank that simulates the Caribbean coral reef. The tank is home to bony sharks and sea turtles, moray eels, stingrays, barracuda, and smaller fish that live in the reef. It is accessible from the top. The tank is enclosed by a walkway that spirals down, offering visitors to see 52 windows, which provide perspectives of the coral reef at all angles and at any level. The bottom of the tank is surrounded by a vast, square 150,000-US-gallon (570,000 cubic feet) penguin exhibit that houses African penguins and the southern rockhopper penguins. The penguin exhibit is seen from the walkway in the central bank or from the viewing areas elevated, which are surrounded by the perimeter of the. The penguins reside on various artificial rock islands that are part of the exhibit. Its “Amazing Jellies” exhibit in the West Wing features Aurelia aurita sea nettles Cassiopea and Palauan lagoon jellies and Phyllorhiza punctate, which comes from a variety of habitats across the globe.
