The Museum of Science (MoS) is a museum of science and an indoor zoo located within Boston, Massachusetts, located in Science Park, a plot of land that runs along over the Charles River. Along with more than 700 interactive displays, the Museum offers numerous live shows throughout each day, including performances at the Charles Hayden Planetarium and the Mugar Omni Theater, the sole Domed IMAX screen in New England. The museum is accredited as a member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and hosts more than 100 animals, of which many were rescued and rehabbed.
The museum was founded in 1830 as it was known as the Boston Society of Natural History in 1830. It was established by a group of men who wanted to share their interests in science with them. Their first meeting was in February 1830 with seven members in the beginning: Walter Channing, Benjamin D. Greene, George Hayward, John Ware, Edward Brooks, Amos Binney as well as George B. Emerson. The museum was commonly referred to as”the” Boston Museum of Natural History in the 19th century, and the name often appears in writings. In 1862, following the society was through several temporary buildings was built a new building within the Back Bay area of the city and named”the “New England Museum of Natural History.” The museum was situated close to the first Rogers Building of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and William G. Preston designed these neoclassical structures. The first MIT building was destroyed in 1939. However, the Natural History Museum building survives in use as a showcase for home furnishings. Tech Studio
Tech Studio is an exhibit on the 1st floor of the Blue Wing that sees about 200-800 people per day. It features a variety of designs challenges and, in addition to one-on-one “cart activities” for visitors. The design center has around a dozen different activities for visitors to try while learning about engineering. The center is open every day between 10 am and 12 pm, from 1:30 pm-3:30 in the school year and from 4:30 pm to 6:30 in the summer. The activities on the cart include circuitry and robotics and are designed to provide visitors with information about technology advancements. The activities include the possibility of a magnet for those who tried the activities.
